Sangram Singh plays a sports coach in Yuva

Many sportspersons including boxer Vijender Singh , tennis player Leander Paes and cricketer Vinod Kambli have tried a spot of hero-giri in Bollywood, and failed. Now it's Sangram Singh's turn. And he won't make the mistake that other sports films and persons did.

What makes him think he will succeed where his predecessors from the sports field have failed? Sangram explains, "That's because they should've done a sports film rather than play characters that the audience couldn't identify them with. In the film entitled Yuva that I've just completed I play a sports coach. I am not trying to portray myself as a typical Hindi film hero. And neither am I going to be romancing any girl...at least in the typical way."

Sangram's romantic interest in the film is a girl called Shefali Singh.He says she has a crush on him, though he doesn't reciprocate. He is also very proud of the supporting cast. "I am new. I therefore needed a strong supporting cast to prop me up . I got Om Puri, Rajit Kapoor, Jimmy Sheirgil, Sanjay Mishra - some of the finest talent . I am safe. Baqi toh sab oopar wale ke haath mein."

Sangram has also said yes to a television serial Badi Door Se Aayen Hain on Sab TV where he plays a superhero. "They wanted me for eight episodes. I said yes because I liked the idea of playing a powerful character. With my physique and public image I can't be expected to play routine characters."
