Salman Khan, Kabir Khan, Vijeyendra Prasad should get National Awards: Raakhee

The reclusive Raakhee Gulzar turned 68 on August 15. She was born on the same day that India attained freedom. And the massacres that happened thereafter left an indelible scar on her soul. Birthdays are therefore never a pleasant experience for this actress. However, this year her birthday turned out to unexpectedly bright and cheerful. In self-imposed exile for the last 10 years, the actress, last seen as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's mother in Dil Ka Rishta ten years ago, saw Bajrangi Bhaijaan. And was bowled over by its message of Indo-Pak friendship.

The actress who played Salman Khan's mother in Karan Arjun says, "This is Salman's best performance and by far his most important film to date. The film's message of hope, peace and friendship across the border filled my heart with joy. I haven't felt so good watching a film for a very long time. For the first time I felt there is hope of peace between the two countries."

Raakhee makes a sharp observation about Salman. "He excels at playing innocent characters. In the last 20 minutes of Bodyguard he was taken for a ride by the two women. In Bajrangi Bhaijaan again he is a naïve man pushed around by everyone. As a fellow-actor I could see Salman was not faking any of the emotions. He felt every minute of his role. The team would've been in serious trouble if they had gone wrong with the politics or religion of the theme. The writer Vijeyendra Prasad, the director Kabir Khan and Salman should get National awards."
