Salman Khan hit-and-run-case: Doctor seeks police protection

The public prosecutor in the 2002 hit-and-run case of Bollywood actor Salman Khan said the doctor who had collected the blood samples of the actor has requested the sessions court for police protection.

"Dr. Shashikant Pawar has asked for a constable till the next hearing. The court has asked him to give a written application but he said he will not give a written application but just prayed for security," Public Prosescutor Pradeep Gharat said.

Gharat also said the defence advocate was not well and asked for a new date for the next hearing. He also said that two witnesses were supposed to depose in the court, but they would be present on January 22.

Meanwhile, Senior Advocate Abha Singh said a witness asking for police protection was a serious matter. "Inquiry should be done and if the truth is found, then Salman Khan's bail should be rejected," she said. "CrPC [Code of Criminal Procedure] clearly says that if any witness is influenced, then in that case, the bail can be cancelled," Singh added.

In a major setback for Salman Khan, the Supreme Court had on January 14 set aside the Rajasthan High Court's order in the 1998 Black Buck poaching case, following which he would not be able to travel abroad.
