Chak De India girl, Sagarika Ghatge is making her debut in a Marathi film opposite National Award winner Atul Kulkarni in Premachi Goshta. Talking about the movie Sagarika says, “This movie is about two strangers who are thrown into a conversation about love and marriage and what happens when they really get to know each other. I play a middle-class girl who is an aspiring writer. She undergoes an emotional journey and finally achieves her goals.”
Her most remembered role as Preeti Sabarwal, the hockey player, in Chak De India gained her many awards and accolades. Sagarika says, her life changed after the movie. She was only nineteen-years-old when she was shooting for the movie. “I was fresh out of college and I wanted to study more, I had no plans of acting. I was not focussed at all. It just happened to me, just like Premachi Goshta,” confesses the actress. She fondly remembers that she wanted to pursue fashion marketing when the role Chak De India was offered to her, after which her life has been a roller-coaster ride.
Sagarika, who will be playing Atul’s love interest in the Marathi film, says that the actor was an inspiration for her. The film also stars veteran actor Rohini Hattangady who is making a return to Marathi cinema after 22 years. “I had a great learning experience shooting for this movie. I have been really lucky to have worked with such experienced actors. Working with Atul especially has been a dream come true for me.”
The actress claims that she has always wanted to do a Marathi film. “The main reason I took up the movie is because Marathi films are constantly evolving. There are so many good scripts these days. I am glad that I am finally treading into the Marathi film industry,” says Sagarika.
