Ryan Murphy casts Lady Gaga as Donatella Versace in 3rd installment of 'American Crime Story'

Murphy sure loves working with the same cast again and again. It was Kathy Bates for AHS and then Sarah Paulson for the same and ACS. Lady Gaga is walking the same path.

After two stellar seasons on American Horror Story, Lady Gaga is now teaming up with executive producer Ryan Murphy the third season of American Crime Story.

Gaga was a standout in American Horror Story: Hotel for which she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Limited Series for the role and she's wowing the audience again in this season's Roanoke which airs on Star World Premiere in India.

The third season of American Crime Story will focus on the 1997 murder of Donatella's brother, Gianni Versace who founded the company in 1978. Gianni was gunned down by serial killer Andrew Cunanan, who committed suicide just over a week later. It's still unclear why Cunanan targeted Gianni as part of his three-month killing spree though, which is likely what the season will explore.

Not only will Gaga make a perfect Donatella, physically, but she and the designer are close friends in real life, too. They've walked red carpets together, and Donatella chose Gaga to star in Versace's Spring 2014 ad campaign. And there was also that time Lady Gaga penned and recorded a tribute track for the designer ("Donatella" from Artpop). So, it probably goes without saying that the role is going to be very personal for Gaga.

American Crime Story's first go was titled The People v OJ Simpson and it seized nine Emmy Awards this year, including for Outstanding Limited Series and for performances by Sarah Paulson, Courtney B Vance and Sterling K Brown.

Its second series will centre on the 2005 Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.
