Actor Farhan Akhtar says his upcoming musical-drama Rock On!! 2 focuses on the conflict in the North-East region of India. The movie has been majorly shot in Shillong, Meghalaya.

"The film really is about that place, about that culture, it is about the region's problem. The largest conflict in the movie is the regional conflict... There is a personal issue also but the main is the regional problem," Farhan said in an interview.

The 41-year-old Bhaag Milkha Bhaag star said the movie will promote North-East music, which has a dedicated fan following across the country.

"The movie is about rock and this genre is huge in the North-East. There is a band in the region called Somersault, which is a part of the film, there is a song in Khassi. The Noth-East music features seriously in the film. I am very happy to do this (promote North-East music). It is important to bring everything in mainstream. Everybody in the North-East plays an instrument or they sing. You don't get to see that generally. When we were there, we had music playing 5 or 6 in the morning and no one was complaining. Everyone was enjoying that."

Rock On!! 2, also starring Shraddha Kapoor and Arjun Rampal, is directed by Shujaat Saudagar. The sequel to 2008's box office success Rock On!! will release on November 11.

Farhan shared he has been penning songs for some time now and once he completes filming Rock On!! 2", he will focus on his songs. The multifaceted performer might release his own album or an array of separate singles.

"I am writing lyrics, not for any film but for myself. When I finish Rock On!! 2, I will take a two-three months off and complete my songs. I don't know if it will be an album, you don't need to release an album these days... It can be a single or three-four songs."

Farhan praised the current trend of singles, which was a big hit during the '90s.

"Indie music is getting rejuvenated now and it is a great thing because there are many bands, who are not interested in doing film music. God bless them for that. I feel an alternate culture needs to exist of expression and if through songs you can do that, then nothing like it."
