Superstar Robert Downey Jr's son Indio has been charged with felony drug possession stemming from his cocaine arrest last month. The 20-year-old was also charged with misdemeanour possession of drug paraphernalia and is entitled to a drug diversion program, reported TMZ.

It was earlier reported that Indio was in a car with two other people when the vehicle was pulled over by police officers on June 29. Indio was searched and arrested on charges of cocaine possession. Indio will be facing a maximum sentence of three years and six months in prison if convicted on both counts, but a drug-diversion programme is a typical option for first-time offenders.

After Indio's arrest, Downey Jr, who has famously struggled with drug addiction and spent time behind bars, had recently spoke out about his son's troubles following the incident. "Unfortunately there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it," Downey Jr had said.
