Richard Gere, who will be starring in the sequel to the surprise hit of 2012 Best Exotic Marigold Hotel about golden oldies enjoying retirement in a bizarre hotel in India, is embracing getting old.

The 65-year-old actor, who joins Dames Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, both aged 80, and British actors Bill Nighy and Ronald Pickup in the film directed by John Madden, said that working with a cast like that, it took about two seconds to say yes, the Daily Express reported.

The Pretty Woman star, who plays the mysterious American Guy Chambers, noted that he also liked the idea of a film made for a more mature audience, who could laugh at themselves, adding that he laughed out loud at the first movie.

Gere, who was also undaunted by the all-British flavour of the production, added that he has been laughing at the British sense of humour all his life and so to be involved in that sense of fun made it all so easy. He continued that you can't be an actor and not have a youthful spirit. This cast, who I will call middle-aged rather than old, had it in abundance.

The story is about older people who are still having the time of their lives and Gere, who loves the idea of playing something of a silver fox in the film, thinks that's a reflection of how things are today.

Gere, who has never dyed his hair in his life and is not going to start now, said that he has had to darken it for a couple of films, such as Unfaithful and it perhaps knocks off five years, no more, but the moment filming is over, he just let it go grey again. He added that it is the same with facial surgery, implying that he is not kept awake worrying about such things at five o'clock in the morning rather he tries to keep the weight off and stay fit and leave it at that. As he thinks changes in appearance are so very often discomforting.
