Since you made your TV debut, you have managed to be part of serials away from the typical saas-bahu sagas...
Yes, my debut show Karol Bagh 12/24 dealt with the issue of generation gap in which I played one of the four siblings. The Delhi-based show was widely appreciated. My second show Apno Ke Liye Geeta Ka Dharmayudh was about my character standing for truth and fighting against domestic violence, but it  didn’t do well. It was Phulwa that proved to be be the turning point of my career. A gun-toting dacoit, (based on Phoolan Devi) it was a role of a lifetime as I got to do what a male hero would  — plenty of action, drama and romance. (Smiles) Such a role on television is rare. And now as Bulbul in Kya Hua Tera Vaada, I am playing an independent girl who believes in family values. I relate to the character in many ways.

What is so special about Bulbul?
Like I said, I identify with her. The only difference is, unlike Bulbul I view relationships and love differently. I love my father whereas Bulbul hates her father. The circumstances she has been brought up in are responsible for her behavior and actions. The character is very strong.

You also did Comedy Circus. How was the experience?
It was fantastic. But I have realised that stand-up comedy is far more difficult than acting in a soap. However, the reason I opted out of the show is, it was not possible for me to do three shows simultaneously.

What did you like about Ravi (Dubey) when you met him?
Ravi’s (Tej of Saas Bina Sasural) compassion and consideration for everyone around him attracted me. We were co-stars in Karol Bagh, so I got to know him on the sets, became friends and slowly it struck me that I like him. Now after doing Naach Baliye together we understand each other’s anger levels too! Ravi is my emotional support. Since I work in a daily soap too, he accommodates and plans everything in advance so that my time is not wasted and I can concentrate on practice and performance. He is the best boyfriend one can ever get.

Any plans of tying the knot soon?
We want to get married, for sure. But I can’t think of marriage at the moment. Our parents will decide when we will be getting married. It may be this year or next year. I believe in the institution of marriage. It is for keeps.
