'Ratan Ka Rishta' TRPs tumbling rapidly

It could be due to a variety of reasons actually — right from the fact that the masses are still trying to figure who the lead of the show, Ratan is, to why is a motor mouth like Dolly Bindra helping her out select a groom.

A man or a woman choosing his or her respective life partner on national television — the concept had to grab eyeballs. And the first season of the Swayamvar series had controversy and starlet queen Rakhi Sawant pick a prospective groom from a room full of suitors, a chunk of whom she would eliminate in each episode. The season opened to a decent Amap ratings of 3.5.

The next season had politico Rahul Mahajan pick a bride. And unlike Rakhi, who went on to break her engagement to the winner of the reality show, Rahul married an aspiring model Dimpy Ganguly and the two recently celebrated a year of being married. The show had opened to a Amap ratings of 2.4.

Season three, however, seems like a recipe for disaster and with a Amap rating of 1.2, its fate seems to be sealed. So what is it that has put people off Ratan Ka Rishta on Imagine TV? It could be a variety of reasons actually — right from the fact that the masses are still trying to figure who the lead of the show, Ratan is, to why is a motor mouth like Dolly Bindra helping her out select a groom.

Or maybe it’s just that Ratan seems too disinterested in the entire proceedings herself. Take your pick. Industry members were not willing to come on record to analyse the show but one source does point out that for a reality show of this nature to click, the main contestant has to be very popular.

“Rakhi and Rahul were thorough entertainers and that was their claim to fame. Ratan is just another girl, whom most didn’t even know about till she bagged the Swayamvar show. She is a sweet girl, but the TV

industry is flooded with many like her. She doesn’t have a USP to set her apart in the mind of the audience. And the Amap ratings seem to say that too, at least for now. It may pick up during the finale though, like most reality shows do,” says the source.
