Ranveer’s shark attack

After PETA takes objection, Ranveer Singh’s ‘violent’ act, now gets a disclaimer

He’s so full of swag, he can’t contain it. Something that began with Ranveer Singh’s Do The Rex and My Name Is Ranveer Ching ads and that comes to the fore with his BaniyaanMan outing for a popular vest brand.

The vest-clad Ranveer makes women turn to jelly at the very sight of him. He builds Taj Mahal in the sand, catches a tennis ball with his butt cheeks and knocks out a shark to save damsel in supposed distress.

If it wasn’t so funny, we’d find the time to get offended, like animal activists  and PETA. Obviously, that’s a fake shark and we’re pretty sure no real fish were harmed in the making of his howlarious commercial. And it’s not like impressionable children (or adults for that matter) are going to fight sharks, big or small, with their bare hands, just because Ranveer did.

Anyway, following objection, the ad will now be shown with a disclaimer. Are we getting too intolerant? First the Aishwarya Rai Bachchan jewellery ad and now this. What will offend us next?

WHAT PETA HAD TO SAY--

Says Poorva Joshipura, PETA India CEO, “Studies found that 42% of India’s youth is passionate about participating in a movement for a cause that affects them. Readers of a popular girl’s magazine voted animal rights the ‘Coolest Political Cause’.

By recruiting Ranveer Singh, the vest brand is desperately trying to attract youth, but nothing shows how utterly out of touch with youngsters the company actually is than its depiction of cruelty to animals in its advertisement.

There is nothing sexy about pretending to beat up an animal, and nothing that may disgust a girl more.  Sharks play a key role in ocean ecosystems but their populations worldwide are declining rapidly. There is no time greater than now that these animals need our respect.  PETA will be writing to the vest brand and to Ranveer Singh to share our concerns on behalf of sharks and today’s socially aware youth.”
