Ram Gopal Varma is set to direct a sequel to his 1989 directional debut Shiva. The  sequel to the action thriller will Akkineni Nagarjuna, Amala and Raghuvaran in lead roles. The original film was a pathbreaking hit at the time and made Nagarjuna a star overnight.

Over a year ago, on its silver jubilee function, RGV and Nagarjuna had announced the re-release date of Shiva with digital, remastered version in 3D and analog sound. However, it later got postponed. Now, the actor has requested RGV to do a sequel for this film rather than re-releasing the digitised version.

A source from their production house says that the director has already started working on the script for the sequel. Meanwhile, Nagarjuna asked RGV to include his wife Amala, and his two sons Chaitanya and Akhil in the sequel.

The film which revolves around the student politics, with local mafia backdrop, has remained a cult classic blockbuster. The sequel will be produced by the Akkineni family under their own production house.
