Rajinikanth stars at daughter’s wedding

The sartorial style in the wedding was cross-cultural. Rajinikanth’s wife Latha was clad in a traditional Iyengar sari, the groom was in Iyer dress, and Rajinikanth was wearing a Marathi turban.

It was the most glittering marriage the Tamil film industry has seen. On Friday, ‘superstar’ Rajinikanth’s second daughter, Soundarya, tied the knot with a construction magnate’s son Ashwin Ramkumar at the Rani Meyammai Hall at Egmore.

Amid the who’s who of Tamil filmdom, Sridevi and Boney Kapoor were the star attraction. Among the other couples, Suhasini-Maniratnam and Jyothika-Surya were prominent. Bollywood’s hottest duo, Abhishek Bach-chan and Aishwarya Rai, were present at the engagement ceremony on Thursday.

Among the politicians who attended the marriage ceremony were Union home minister P Chidambaram and Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi. Opposition leader J Jayalalithaa could not attend. Rajinikanth managed to pull in the big names of the South Indian film industry. Kamal Hassan was accompanied by his new partner Gouthami, top stars Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Suman and Meena were also present.

Aswhin holds a master’s degree from Stanford University, but takes care of his father’s construction business. Soundarya runs an animatronics company. The two got engaged in February after a year’s courtship.
