Rajinikanth-starrer Kabali has been grabbing the headlines lately for its unique promotion strategy. According to latest reports, in Kerala, the distribution rights of the much anticipated flick, have been bagged by Malayam superstar Mohanlal for a whopping sum of Rs 8.5 crore!

Manorama Online.com reports that Mohanlal's Maxlab is all set to distribute Kabali in Kerala with Antony Perumbavoor’s Aashirvad Cinemas.The amount of Rs 8.5 crore, at which the rights of Kabali have been acquired, is the highest amount paid for a non-Malayalam movie in Kerala.

This makes Vijay's Theri stand at the second place which was sold for Rs 5.6 crore to Friday Films, reports Manorama. Kabali is all set to hit about 150 screens in Kerala and 2000 screens around the globe.

The film features Rajinikanth in the role of a don who fights for Tamils in Malaysia. Kabali also stars Radhika Apte, Kishore, Kalaiarasan, Dinesh, Ritwika, Dhansikaa and Winston Chao in key roles.
