Film and TV actor Rajesh Khattar, who has also done the Hindi voice over for several international films, is doing his first French series, the popular comedy show, Fais pas ci, fais pas ça (Don't do this, don't do that). He is currently shooting for it in Jaipur.
The actor is playing an Indian character that of Kumar Sanghvi who hails from a royal family. Says Rajesh, "This is the ninth season of the series that revolves around two neighbouring families who have antagonistic views about eduction. The story shifts to India in this season where a French boy falls in love with an Indian girl. I play the affluent father of the girl." The comedy, he says, has strong family emotions and every character has his/her own peculiarities.
Since Rajesh is an Indian, his character will be taught a few French words in the serial. "They try to dupe me by teaching me some offensive words, but what happens is I keep repeating those and end up insulting them, unknowingly," smiles Rajesh and adds that the makers are taking care not to run down either Indians or French. "They are maintaining a proper balance between the two," he says.
Director Cathy Verney says, "15 years ago I spent an eye opening trip in India and especially in Rajasthan. I've always promised I would come back here to work. Also it was high time for the families to escape from their environment and embark on a journey where they are confronted to a new country, a new family with different values. It ultimately leads to an inevitable culture clash which is the heart of best comedies."
