The official remake of Khubsoorat (1980), being produced by Sonam Kapoor’s sister Rhea, now has an interesting name associated with it. While the hero, reportedly a ‘fresh face’, is yet to be revealed, according to a source, Bengal’s matinee idol Prosenjit Chatterjee has verbally committed to doing the film directed by Shashank Ghosh (Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II and Quick Gun Murugan). It should roll by the year-end.

Prosenjit confirms, “Yes, I could be doing Anil’s (Kapoor) film, it’s a nice role that suits me. It’s a contemporary remake of Hrishida’s (Hrishikesh Mukherjee) film and I play Ashok Kumar’s role from the original. But it has  been completely modified. I play a young dad.” The actor, who has just bought an apartment in Lokhandawala, is ready for his second innings in Hindi films not only as an actor, but also as a producer, having tied up with Sahara.

At 50 he is looking forward to do good, sensible cinema. “Filmmakers may tell me I still look 35 because I have maintained myself well, but I have had my fill of rain dances and jumping off the 10th floor,” he says. “Even in Kolkata I am not doing the typical hero roles. I want to do  significant roles like Dr Ahmadi, the social activist in Shanghai (2012), that people still talk about. I want to establish myself as an actor and while I am open to mainstream films, I don’t want masala roles.”

In Porichoi, that opens next Friday, the actor plays dad to a young daughter who after 15 years suddenly turns up in Newcastle where he has settled down for a holiday.
