The mortal remains of Madhu Jyotsna Akhouri, the maternal grandmother of Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra, has been laid to rest at the cemetery of a church in Kottayam.
Akhouri, 94, a freedom fighter, social activist and a former MLA, had breathed her last on June 3 in Mumbai.

As she had expressed her wish to be be laid to rest in her home state, Kerala, her body was taken there for the last rites, family sources said.
Priyanka had posted a picture on Instagram:

A number of relatives including Priyanka, flew down from Mumbai to perform the last rites on June 5. Born as Mary in Kavalappara family at Kumarakom, Madhu Jyotsna Akhouri had gone to Bihar as a nurse and later married Dr Akhouri. Besides Priyanka's mother Madhu Chopra, she is survived by two other daugthers and a son.
