The director of films like Sarada , Karpagam and Kulama Kunama, K S Gopalakrishnan died aged 86 at a private hospital.

Golapakrishnan had his roots in Tamil theatre and was a popular writer, director and lyricist as well. He directed over 50 films and many had women as the central character. He has worked with Tamil movie legends like Jayalalithaa, Gemini Ganesan and Sivaji Ganesan.

As a lyricist, the song ‘Un Azhagai Kanniyarkal Sonnathinaley’ in Uthamaputhiram showed how good a lyricist he was as it’s a classic in Kollywood. As a dialogue writer his work in films like 'Padikkadha Medhai', 'Annai' and 'Per Sollum Annai’ are spoken about even today. 

When lyricist Kannadasan was very popular, he started to work with Vaali for his films. And this is said to have ensured his continued success in Tamil cinema.

Gopalakrishnan was conferred the title Tirupugal Isai Arasu as he was apparently good at singing the Tirupugal of Arunagirinathar. He was conferred the Kalaimamani award in 1985 and won the Certificate of Merit for his films Sarada , Karpagam and Kaikodutha Theivam. film , Kaikodutha Theivam starring Sivaji Ganesan also won the President’s Award for him. The last film he directed was Kaviya Thalaivan in 1992 starring Vijaykanth and Bhanupriya.
