For someone like Tisca Chopra, who has been on stage since the age of three, acting has been in her genes. Having experimented with roles like a doting mother in Taare Zameen Par or a glamourous socialite in Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, she is probably one actor who’s experimented with a variety of roles.

The actress, who will be in the city on Thursday for the play Dinner With Friends, says that this was the most challenging roles she has ever played.

“I play the lead character Diya, who goes through myriad emotions. After going through a difficult phase in her life, it is about her struggle to witness victory from within. I have pushed all my boundaries for this role, and it is  by far the most challenging characters that I have essayed,” begins Tisca.

The Pulitzer Award winning play, directed by Feroze Abbas Khan, is an emotional drama that will have Tisca Chopra, Vinay Jain, Perizad Zorabian Irani, and Joy Sengupta in lead roles.

Giving us an insight about the challenges, she says, “I went on a low carbohydrate diet and retrained my voice for this role. As an actor, you need to constantly evolve and prove yourself and I am glad that this role has given me the opportunity. When you see the essence of the character coming out, there is nothing like it. I am much more confident as an actor now.”

She also says that she enjoys working in theatre as that gives her an opportunity to learn new things. Says Tisca, “In theatre, you look the way you are and your voice too is original. It is one of the rawest forms of acting that has minimal resources for support. The actor too has a lot of potential since you are performing for a live audience.”

Tisca is also excited about the roles she is playing in her upcoming releases, Khushiyaan and Love Breakups Zindagi. “In Khushiyaan, I essay the role of NRI woman who rediscovers her new self and in Love...I play a strong-headed professor. Playing challenging roles is what excites me,” says Tisca.

Apart from films, Tisca also has a philanthropic side to her. She works for several NGOs supporting women’s rights, street theatre and supporting education.

“I am a keen supporter for educating underprivileged children. Though I don’t have intentions to start an NGO, I will continue to support self help organisations,” she signs off.
