Aamir Khan starrer 'PK' will have a comparatively shorter run time, than the film it is most likely going to be compared to -- Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Happy New Year.

Says an insider, "Hirani's film will be shorter than HNY, which was criticised for its length. An insider reveals, "The film's runtime after editing is around 2 hours 28 minutes."

The source further adds, "The editing of the film is complete, but the film has not yet been sent for certification. It will be sent for censor certification in two days and the makers are expecting a 'U' certificate."

If this turns out to be true, this would be one of Aamir's shortest films in the recent past. Barring Dhobi Ghat, Aamir's Dhoom 3 had a runtime of 172 minutes and 3 Idiots was 2 hours 50 minutes long. It was only Talaash which was a relatively short film and had a runtime of 2 hrs 19 minutes only.

More screenings...
Aamir Khan has deliberately kept his film short at 2 hrs 28 min. And should the Censors decide to chop any scene, that length will reduce further. A shorter runtime also ensures more number of shows can be screened every day. The number of shows per day will be more than SRK's Happy New Year and Hrithik's Bang Bang, but will almost be at par with Salman's Kick, which also had an almost similar runtime.

More moolah
PK is being touted as a multiplex film, given its content. Although the film's star value and the Aamir Khan-Rajkumar Hirani pair will definitely bring in huge numbers at the single screens as well, more shows at multiplexes would bring in more revenue. And if you remember, Chennai Express too was a much shorter film, of around 141 minutes. The rest, as we know, is history!

Chance of beating Rs 45 crore opening day record of HNY
SRK's Happy New Year created history by raking in `44.97 crore on its opening day. While the collections look almost impossible to beat, PK with a shorter running time and more shows might rake in even more money at the box office. Dhoom 3 had made around Rs 36.22 crore on its first day, despite having a runtime of 172 minutes. PK being 24 minutes shorter than Aamir's previous blockbuster is expected to edge past Dhoom 3 and there's a huge possibility of the film to trod past the HNY record as well!
