The controversial song 'Pinga' from the upcoming movie Bajirao Mastani has managed to create many ruffles within a few days after its release. Right from choreography to the costumes of the two leading ladies of Bollywood, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra seem to be having a tough time.

Not only that, constant comparison to the dance sequence of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit in the hit song Dola re Dola from the film Devdas makes it worse. Moreover, Twitter has lashed out heavily against the song, claiming it to be casteist and ignorant to Marathi culture.

The song showcases Bajirao Peshwa's two wives Queen Kashibai played by Priyanka Chopra and Mastani portrayed by Deepika Padukone commemorating the occasion of the latter wearing traditional Maharashtrian attire for the first time. The tune (and lyrics) of the song have been accused to be almost directly lifted from the old and famous Marathi songs- 'Latpat, latpat tuza chalana' from film Amar Bhoopali (1951) and also 'Nach ga ghuma' from Chandanachi Choli Ang Ang Jali (1975), both directed by legendary director V Shantaram.

On the other hand, dna web team also spoke to a few Maharashtrian dancers who have been performing Lavani for a long time. Lavani is considered to be a traditional Marathi art which is a combination of music and dance, performed to the beats of an instrument called 'dholki'.

Marathi women, in their flamboyant paithini saris and several kilos heavy ghungroos dance to the tunes of the beat with some eccentric moves that adds a sensuous flavour to the song. Megha Ghadge, prominent Lavani dancer considers the presentation to be poor and unrelated to Maharshtra's culture.

"When you perform Lavani, it is necessary that one celebrates Maharashtra's culture and understand the sensitivity with which this is to be celebrated. There is no study done by the choreographer and it does send a wrong message to the future generation." (The choreography of the song has been done by Sanjay and Remo D'Souza).

On the other hand, the 'Wajale Ki bara' Lavani girl Amruta Khanvilkar is all praises for the song. Claiming it to be a well-made presentation of the traditional dance, she said, "There are no specific norms to how a song could be done or danced on. I think the makers have a done a fabulous job and I specifically adore Priyanka Chopra's performance."

Bajirao Mastani is an upcoming film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali which narrates the story of Maratha warrior - Peshwa Baji Rao I of the Maratha Empire and his second wife Mastani.
