Pay disparity, what? Not heroines, Zoya Akhtar wants writers to be paid better!

After directing films like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Dil Dhadakne Do, Zoya Akhtar is now working on  two web series. As much as she enjoys directing, Zoya considers herself a writer first. 

She says, "I don't think there's a dearth of good writers. I think there is a dearth of producers who want to pay writers. You have to invest in something for it to grow and for it to get better and bigger. You cannot expect writers to give you great work and original content, but pay them nothing." 
She feels due to a lack of time there isn't enough quality content and that writers should be paid better. "They are doing five jobs so obviously they are lifting stuff. The problem is that everybody thinks that they can write. They don't respect the medium enough. Until you don't invest money, how is it going to get better?"
