While themes are the in-thing at wedding cocktail parties and sangeet functions, the most popular theme is that of Bollywood. It’s not just the Indians, but also NRIs and foreigners who are opting for the filmi style parties. From regular celebrations to wedding parties, most of them have based their parties on the ultra-colorful Bollywood film themes.
Event organiser Milan Jain informs that the demand for Bollywood style cocktail parties have gone up considerably in recent times. “Couples love to choose films that have their favourite stars. They even make their favourite sequence in the films a part of the cocktail theme. For instance, I recently organised a cocktail party for an NRI couple, who chose Om Shanti Om’s various sequences to be a part of the celebrations. They asked their friends and relatives to dress according to the sequence. The groom-to-be was dressed like actor Shah Rukh Khan and bride-to-be was decked up as actor Deepika Padukone. Right from the music to the food and ambience was designed as per the film. So much so that the invite too was like the poster of the film, with the faces of the actors replaced by that of the bride and groom,” he says.
Another event organiser Nupura adds that the layout of the place is made according to the film chosen. She adds, “If the film is a retro Hindi film, then the food too is more of an Indian fare. But if it’s a new age film, then the food generally happens to be Continental and Oriental. However, Indian food like jalebi, gulab jamun, Mango lassi, spicy veggies and tangy chaats just like Hindi films are popular.”
But it’s not just food, music and clothes that get the filmi theme treatment, minute details like the props and games too are altered around films selected by the party.”
Actors SRK, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and of late, Ranbir Kapoor are hot favourites amongst the brides, while heroines like Katrina Kaif, Deepika, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra along with Madhuri Dixit are men’s favourites. So, we design our games and weave it around these stars to get the bridal couple as well as the entire family involved and happy. So be it enacting a scene from their movie or performing on their hit number and prizes are made in accordance to the actors’ preferences in real life. The trend is picking up in a big way,” says Swati, an upcoming wedding planner.
