For actor Akshay Kumar, fitness has always been a way of life. But physical work outs apart, the Bolly star, believes that an amalgamation of both physical and mental fitness is what makes one truly healthy.

“Pumping iron is not enough,” shares the actor insisting that to attain high fitness levels several lifestyle changes too have to be incorporated apart from just exercising regularly. “Your diet, sleep pattern… everything matters,” he adds.

“So sleeping on time and keeping a check on your meal times too can make a huge impact on your over-all health, apart from the diet intake. Staying away from smoking and alcohol of course helps,” shares Akshay.

Talking about his own work-out regime, the action king reveals that he practices parkour – a form of work-out that involves a lot of free body movements, jumping and leaping.

“When you work out in a gym, each exercise only focuses on a certain body part. Parkour is a complete work-out and it’s fun, so yes I do prefer it over working out in a gym” explains Akshay.

Letting in on another secret about his good health, Akshay says that he stays away from stress. “Even if you don’t meditate, just staying calm helps. And training in martial arts actually teaches you to face any adversity calmly and stay relaxed, even in the more stressful situations,” he adds.

The actor who himself admits to being rather sporty right from his childhood, also emphasises on the need to indulge in outdoor sports like football and cricket. Sources say that the actor still plays football or cricket on the beach early morning when not shooting.

“It’s never too late to adopt a healthy lifestyle, but it’s always better to have it ingrained right from childhood. So, in fact, instead of encouraging the children to watch TV or play computer games for fun, it would be better if they come out and play like we used to when we were children,” says Akshay.
