Pakistani actress Saba Qamar, who makes her debut in Bollywood with the film Hindi Medium, opposite Irrfan Khan, says she was never desperate to work in Bollywood. In an interview given to The Express Tribune, the actress opened up on how she bagged the role in the film and about her aspirations.

The actress told the paper, "I was never desperate to work in Bollywood though I aspired to do a movie across the border but only if I was offered a strong character and a main lead. My plays are widely watched in India and are equally popular. Irrfan had also watched my serial on YouTube and he recommended me to the director.” In an earler interview, Irrfan Khan had already revealed that he had seen Saba's work on YouTube and was really impressed. So he recommended her to the makers.

Saba further went on to reveal that when she first got the call from Irrfan's manager, she didn't believe it to be true. She thought it was a prank, but later when the casting director called her and offered her the film, only then did she believe it. The report also added that she was told that they wanted somebody to portray a character like Kareena Kapoor Khan's role of Geet in Jab We Met.

It was only after Saba saw that the director Saquib Chaudhary had previously helmed films like Pyaar Ke Side Effects and its sequel Shaadi Ke Side Effects and that the film was coming from the banner that made Cocktail and Love Aaj Kal, was she convinced and excited to sign the project.
