Every season of Bigg Boss has had a hook to pull in viewers.

It could either be having an interesting mix - controversial figures, transgenders, reality show winners and the like - or it could simply be the introduction of a new concept. Season 5 had 12 women and one man in the beginning, while last year, the house was divided into heaven and hell. This time around, if rumours are to be believed, it will be a couples-only season, all about love. There will even be a gay couple in the house!

And if the show's history has taught us anything, reality TV digs sure gold when a couple gets lovey-dovey inside the house. Or if they become a couple during their stay and share a crackling chemistry. Being intimate guarantees longevity on the show. Case in point? Last year's big hookups Tanishaa-Armaan Kohli and Kushal Tandon-Gauahar Khan sent ratings soaring and lasted almost till the very end. And who can forget Shilpa and Apurva Agnihotri's eternal smoochiness?

Also, with the show growing bigger and bolder every season, couples no longer shy away from public displays of affection. The viewers? Well, they're not complaining...

Bigg Love

Season 1: Anupama Verma and Aryan Vaid
Season 2: Rahul Mahajan with Payal Rohatgi and Monica Bedi
Season 3: Pravesh Rana and Claudia Ciesela
Season 4: Veena Malik gave Ashmit Patel steamy massages in this season. Sara Khan, who was also shown getting close to Ashmit, instead married beau Ali Merchant in the house!
Season 6: Pooja Bedi and Akashdeep Saigal aka Sky are one of the few couples who have continued their relationship long after the show ended as did Vishal Karwal and Karishma Kotak

Love actually!

With Cupid having such a high strike rate, it's no wonder that BB8 has decided to have romance in the forefront. We asked a few couples who appeared on the show what they thought of the development.

Tanaaz Irani: Though it's a great experience being on the show, it's also a test of how strong your relationship is. Bigg Boss puts you in unnatural situations and it is all the more important to have a normal relationship with your partner. You have to be super-confident because you may be more popular than your partner and he/she may stay longer. And no, it's not only about romance. Too much coochie-cooing will bore the viewers. You can't be a sati savitri either. You have to give each other space, so that your relationship remains strong and you emerge unscathed from the house!

Armaan Kohli: Honestly, it was Tanishaa and I who brought this concept of love and we should get a royalty from the channel! On a serious note, I think it will be an interesting concept. It will provide a lot of entertainment as there will be both romance and fights.

Vishal Karwal: I hope the couples don't end up leaving each other after the show! But seriously, it's good to have somebody whom you know. You might be stuck in the house for 90-100 days and having a partner will be a big comfort. It's a nice concept and there are more positives than negatives to it. Most of the couples behave perfectly in the media, but inside the house it's going to be fun. When couples are quite comfortable with each other, there are chances of them revealing their bedroom secrets!

Rajev Paul: God bless the couples! I was in a stupid situation. I didn't know somebody from my past will be there. But I guess it's different with different couples. Apurva and Shilpa's case was different - they had a comfort level. It all depends on the status of your relationship.

Delnaz Irani: My advice will be, don't go together. Though it's a wonderful experience, I would rather suggest the person goes individually and not as a couple. The show takes a lot out of you. If you are with a partner, you tend to take each other for granted and sometimes that can look shabby on screen. You require a lot of patience. For the viewer, you will provide total masala, but your relationship may suffer.

The latest is...

Shweta Salve, Karishma Tanna and Mariam Zakaria are said to be confirmed. It remains to be seen if their spouse/boyfriend will be a participant (Shweta is married to businessman Harmit Sethi, Karishma is reportedly seeing choreographer Hanif Hilal and Miriam... well, we're sure they'll dig out some old boyfriend!)
