Daddies are a big deal in Bollywood. Rahein toh you you have hazaar tiffs with them, na rahein toh you miss them like hell. But, whatever the situation, fathers make for emotional tracks, as the list that follows will show...

Papa Kehte Hain - Qayamat Se Qayamat Hogi

Dalip Tahil, who plays Aamir Khan's dad in this blockbuster, is in jail for most of his early life, leaving his boy without a father's love. When he is finally released, he finds himself at a college party. He finds that his son has just graduated from college and is full of hope for his life and future. The lyrics are personal and at the same time, generic in that it underlines most parents' aspirations.

Mere Papa The Great - Papa The Great

Most dads are supermen for their children. As good role models, they shape the men and women their children will be in later life. We are introduced to Kishan Kumar's character as a well-meaning yet weak-willed construction supervisor. This song plays out during his son's school function when the boy takes to the mic to express his pride for his dad and the values he taught him. Dad's over the moon, obviously, but little does the son know his father is far from "great".

Akele Hum Akele Tum - Akele Hum Akele Tum

Adapted from Kramer vs Kramer, AHAT is less about the divorce between Aamir and Manisha's characters itself and more about the custody battle between them over their young boy. The director takes great pains to convince you that the dad is the better option, even using this song as leverage to show that father and son are a complete family by themselves. In fact, we'd wager that if the video accompanying this song were presented and been admissible in court as evidence, the dad might actually stand a chance of winning. In Bollywood, of course.

Papa Main Choti Se Badi Ho Gayi Kyu - Aisi Bhi Kya Jaldi Hai

A bidaai song that tugs at all the right heartstrings, this track from Aisi Bhi Kya Jaldi Hai, to borrow a cliché, hits you right in the feels. The very real fact that she'll leave the dad, who she shared such a close bond with, and who never even remarried, so she'd get all his love, sinks in. Like any good daughter, she worries and wonders aloud why she grew up. Shrishti Behl and Sachin Pilgaonkar play the beti and Papa in question.

Papa Mere Papa - Main Aisa Hi Hoon

Never mind that this girl's dad should never have become a dad in the first place, given his mental faculty. He's a kid trapped in an adult body. The mother abandoned their daughter and Ajay Devgn, who plays the father in this film, is left holding the baby, literally. With a little help from family and friends, he manages to bring her up well and give her a good education. Only to be faced with the very real possibility that she might be taken away from him. The song is the little one's attempt at making Sushmita Sen, who plays Ajay's lawyer, understand what a great dad he is.

Mujhse Naaraz Ho - Papa Kehte Hain

If I didn't know any better, I'd peg Mayuri Kango's rebellious character as someone who always got her way and got away with it. Her mother is separated from her dad and she finds out he is in Seychelles and heads out to find him. When she does, she finds him less than thrilled to see her there. He doesn't know how to be a dad, never has and seemingly, never wants to. Through this song, where she's shown to be in an angry mood, sees her estranged dad, played by Anupam Kher, about something, make efforts at placating her... somewhat.

Tujhse Naaraaz Nahin Zindagi - Masoom

DK had an affair several years before he got married. Only thing is, he never knew he had a kid. And when he realises he has to father a son, it's been several years since he's been married. His wife Indu isn't too happy when she learns of the father-son bond, something even the son figures out much later. Before that, he takes DK to be a benevolent uncle. In this song, DK, played by Naseeruddin Shah, tells his son of how he has had to come to terms with his bewildering situation, and hence the boy's banishment to boarding school (and not because he's angry with him).
