It’s often said that geniuses live in their own world, one which we mortal beings can’t understand or access. One person who seems to be perpetually living in this other-world is auteur Anurag Kashyap. Often considered as Bollywood’s answer to Martin Scorsese, Kashyap has been waging a war against the CBFC, Narendra Modi, Pahlaj Nihalani and most importantly, logic.

On the day, Meryl Streep gave her post-truth laden speech against Donald Trump at the Golden Globes Award, Anurag Kashyap was one of those who were moved. After the speech, Kashyap tweeted: “We in our film industry don't even need to give a speech like Meryl Streep if we just start standing up with those who actually speak up.”

Perhaps Kashyap was referring to his recent battle to release the plagiarised Udta Punjab or when he took on cudgels for his new best-friend Karan Johar in the ADHM row demanding PM Modi ‘apologise for going to Pakistan’.

Given that Kashyap is extremely vocal about speaking up, it was no surprise that Twitter user Rahul Raj (@bhak_sala) asked Kashyap to speak up about the threats received by Zaira Wasim. Strangely, Kashyap felt the best way to deal with is was to indulge in false correlation. In a bizarre reply, Kashyap claimed that fundamentalists who abused Zaira Wasim were the same as him (Rahul Raj).  For the uninitiated, Rahul Raj is the founder of Opindia.com and is one of the more vocal right wing voices on social media.

Kashyap wrote on Twitter: “They, who force her to apologise are same as you, Mr. Rahul Raj , I condemn you as much as I condemn them.. He further concluded that: “The whole troll army is out.. @narendramodi sir.. Amazing people you follow.. Pride of the nation.. Did you conduct private classes for them. Literally today on the dining table, all the @narendramodi voters were sitting and discussing what a grave mistake they made @Bhak_Sala. My new year resolution.. The more the Bhakts troll me , i am going to troll the Boss..lets play Troll-Troll.”

Kashyap continued to take on all comers, adding that it was his resolution to troll the Boss (Narendra Modi). Even by Kashyap’s genius standards, this a deduction which is completely inexplicable. How does a case of hardcore fundamentalists threatening Zaira Wasim for doing ‘unIslamic things’, equate with someone questioning mainstream narratives?

To be honest, Kashyap's stance isn't that strange, and it's his prerogative what causes he want to support or back but then he should stop begging others to stand up for him when he is unwilling to do so for those who would need his support. And he certainly shouldn't cry when people point out his hypocrisy.
