Now a film on match-fixing

A film on the match-fixing and controversies that currently rock the nation, may sound like a get-rich-quick scheme. So when one heard a production company called Film Engine was all set to start a film called Match Fixing, one immediately thought of a cinematic scam to beat all others scandals.

But wait. Match Mixing is not a fly-by-night project. The man helming the project is Rommel Rodriguez who did all the research for Ram Gopal Varma’s The Attacks On 26/11. An investigative journalist-turned-author, Rommel has gone deep into the malaise of match-fixing and come up with some uncomfortable answers.

Says Rommel, “My interest in cricket was very keen until the year 2000 when the match fixing scandals first broke out. I began investigating the malaise and discovered to my horror and disgust that the rackets run much deeper than just bookies and fixers. I lost interest in cricket and became increasingly interested in match-fixing.”

 At that time Rommel was unable to gather his thoughts together to write the screenplay. But now with the current match-fixing scams breaking loose, Rommel is ready to raid and crack the secret codes that control the corrupt on-field practices. Rommel’s research has  shown up major discrepancies in the spirit of sportsmanship that had once controlled the game.

He says, “I actually wanted to write a book on match-fixing. But a screenplay has a wider reach.”

The film will be formated as a thriller with a cop-hero investigating the match-fixing scam. An A-lister would be cast as the cop-hero. The film is expected to be shot, completed and released in the next four-six months.
