Thalaiva has been meeting fans over last few days and revealed the release date of his much-awaited sci-fi '2.0'. Directed by Shankar, the film is a sequel to 2010 hit Endhiran. 2.0 also stars Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson in the lead and has been under production for a long time now. A few weeks back the makers confirmed that the film will finally hit theatres in April 2018 and now Rajini has revealed the date as well.
According to Firstpost, 2.0 will hit theatres on April 14, Tamil New Year instead of 27 April. Much to the relief of producers for Mahesh Babu and Allu Arjun's films who wished to that the three superstars don't have a film release on the same date!
Rajini even explained the reason for delay of 2.0. He said, "Director Shankar gave me nationwide fame. The humongous amount of money they invest in me is all because of you (fans). They trust in me, and my fans and 2.0 is the result of that trust. I don't know if a film like that will ever be made again. How we all celebrate Chandralekha as a classic, 2.0 will also stand out. The film is delayed because of the extensive CG work. And (AR) Rahman can start the re-recording only after the entire visuals are ready. So the film's release is postponed to 14 April."
But that's not his only release for 2018. Thalaiva also features in son-in-law Dhanush's home production Kaala, which marks his second collaboration with director Pa Ranjith as well. Rajini confirmed that Kaala is going to come within two months of 2.0 release. Rajinikanth said, "Director Ranjith has presented a different Rajinikanth in Kaala. I felt really happy doing my role in the film, and it will also be released two months after 2.0."
Kaala also stars Huma Qureshi, Nana Patekar, Anjali Patil,and Samuthirakani in the lead. The plot revolves around a man who escapes from Chennai and ends up being a gangster in Dharavi slums of Mumbai.
Huma also congratulated Rajini on his innings. She tweeted, " Can't think of a better leader."
2018 is surely turning to be a happy new year for Rajini fans!
