Neil Patrick Harris was not the first choice of Academy to host the Oscars for the year 2015. According to the Hollywood Reporter, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron wanted 2014's host, Ellen DeGeneres, to take the stage, but despite their appeals, DeGeneres, who had increased the viewership by 8 percent, declined to host for the third time.

The bosses had turned to Chris Rock, which couldn't work out, and to Julia Louis-Dreyfus after that, who too refused the offer. Then came Harris, who had proved himself during stints at the Tony Awards in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013, and as host of the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2009 and 2013.

The 'How I Met Your Mother' star, 41, hadn't really concealed his desire to take on the legendary gig, and had even mentioned "host the Oscars" at the end of a long bucket list that also included "meet the president" and "have children."

However, after Harris accepted the job, many people have been wondering why Jimmy Kimmel, who has proven himself to be gamely up to the challenge, wasn't considered for the spot.
