With all the hype about Nach Baliye 7 being more than a dance show, I couldn't wait to watch the show. Add to it the three brand new judges, actress Preity Zinta, novelist Chetan Bhagat (I couldn't for the life of me figure out what he would do in a dance show) and choreographer Marzi Pestonjee and it became more intriguing. But having watched the grand premiere I am still recovering from the two-and-a-half-hour tamasha! The makers have been drilling into us that it's just too much and it is indeed too much to handle. Read on to know why...

Chetan Bhagat: He is the self-appointed marriage counsellor on the show. While Marzi and Preity are giving marks for the dance and the couples' chemistry, Chetan is focussing on the background story of the couple. He has to 'cause he knows squat about dance. What is galling is Chetan's condescending comments. He told Karishma Tanna and Upen Patel that he will find out if they are a real couple or a reality show couple. Do we really care as long as they do what they are supposed to and that is dance. Sana Saaed and Dipesh may be really in love or may have teamed up for the show, all we want to see is how good are they are at shaking their leg. Not Chetan. After the couple danced to Saturday Saturday, Chetan took off on life/marriage not being just about Saturdays, but Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, yes the seven days of the week! Seriously! They are a young couple in love, let them be. They are not asking your permission to marry! As if that's not enough he said that he doesn't believe in the Gen Next concept of love. "You fall in love on whatsapp, elope and marry in two months," he remarked. Bas, that was enough to anger Arpit Ranka better known as Duryodhan (Mahabharat) who had eloped and married Nidhi. "Agar main isse shaadi nahi karta toh yeh ladki phaasi pe chad jaati," he thundered. If he had his gada (mace) in his hand he would have thrown it at Chetan for sure.

Melodrama
More than dance, there was emotional drama going on the floor. The makers were trying everything possible to get the participants and the judges to start the waterworks. Arpit and Nidhi narrated their troubled love story, how Nidhi missed her parents at the most important moment of her life - the kanyadaan - because they were against the match. Then Mrunal Thakur (Kumkum Bhagya) took to the floor and said how her parents are opposed to her relationship with writer Sharad Tripathi. She ended up crying and the camera then panned on others who were shedding tears. Preity Zinta walked to the stage to console Mrunal and urged her parents to give their blessings to the couple. Aishwarya Sakhuja became so emotional that she couldn't speak. Later, after her performance when she was thanking God and her parents for letting her marry Rohit, her father surprised her into tears by appearing on stage. While we understand their pain and joy, this is not the platform to air their personal woes. We only want to see them nach and nothing more please!

Hosts
Karan Patel and Rithvik Dhanjani have taken over from Gautam Rode and Karan Wahi and if the first episode is anything to go by this new bromance doesn't look promising. Individually, they are good as hosts, but together the chemistry is missing. The conversattion between them is a drag and the humour is forced.

Contestants
The line-up is not that exciting. Except for a few contestants like Karishma Tanna - Upen Patel, Rashami Desai-Nandish Sandhu, Aishwarya Sakhuja - Rohit Nag, Sana Saeed, Sangram Singh, most of them are not that popular. Or only one of the partners is. However, we have to say that the acts are choreographed and performed well.

Format
Like it or not, we already have one Bigg Boss to deal with, we don't need a rip-off of that! The only difference here is that guys and girls have been put up at separate houses. They will perform tasks a la Bigg Boss leading to fights, ego hassles and of course, romance will be the mainstay. We can do without it. We sorely miss the erstwhile Nach Baliye that was only about the couples' chemistry and dance.
