A special classical dance and music concert - Namamee - tracing Swami Vivekananda’s 'Journey to Divinity' – will see well-known Odissi exponent and guru Shubhada Varadkar, and sitar/zitar exponent Niladri Kumar on 18th January. Sanskrita Foundation (SF) and Vivekananda Youth Forum (VYF) are organising the concert on National Youth Day and proceeds from this event will go to aid of the street children of Vivekananda Youth Forum’s Soup kitchen project.

Varadkar said she was delighted to be part of Namamee which will pay obeisance to Swami Vivekananda. “He was not only a spiritual leader, great orator, thinker but a great patriot who gave message of peace and brotherhood. His inspirational words can become goals of self improvement especially for the youth of the country,” she said and added, “His message of universal brotherhood and self-awakening remains relevant especially in the current backdrop of widespread political turmoil around the world. My Odissi dance recital will be based on Swami Vivekananda’s life and philosophy. We learn from his journey how with great respect to dignity of life, celebration of art is an image of chaste life.”

Niladri Kumar felt it was an honour to perform on the occasion of National Youth Day its for the VYF. “The power of youth, starts with you. In each and every one of us there is a passionate youngster. This day, calls out and gives everyone a chance to be inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s life and remind themselves of their journey, through music on Sitar and the Zitar showcasing where and how, tradition meets innovation. One hopes this initiative with Pt Kartick Kumar Foundation inspires and serves youngsters through music.”

SF, is a registered trust dedicated to promote art and culture was established by Varadkar in 2006 with the support of like-minded enthusiasts.
