While mother’s day is all about celebrating and appreciating your moms for being who they are – our lifeline but why not use the occasion to address health and lifestyle issues faced by moms and how they tend to ignore their health over their families.  So, this mother’s day learn some tips and tricks on how to be a fit mom from actress-mother-fitness enthusiast, Sonali Bendre Behl and renowned author and nutritionist, Madhuri Ruia.

For centuries mothers have been the drivers of good health and good eating habits in their households. But while completing this responsibility, they sometimes forget to take care of their own health.
So, this Mother’s Day let’s help our mothers by reminding them to also drive their own good eating and lifestyle habits to help them maintain their health.

Sonali Bendre, says, “My mother was an all-round supermom.... whether it was keeping track of our school work, ensuring that we study, or play, get adequate rest and eat healthy, she fulfilled her role of a mother beautifully. But, while her family’s health and well-being took precedence, in some ways, she neglected her own. Today, being a mom myself, I'm using a lot of what I learnt from her and some which are my own learning, which includes ensuring that I lead a healthy lifestyle. I realised that small additions to your day can have a big impact.... for example, inculcating the habit of having almonds daily. A handful of almonds (approx. about 30 grams or 25 almonds) can give you the extra boost of power to take on the day. Since they are a natural source of many nutrients, they also make for a great pre/post work out snack. Easy to carry, can be eaten on the go... it's so simple!”

Madhuri Ruia, Mumbai-based nutritionist believes that in addition to a healthy diet and regular exercise, it is essential to keep a track of one’s snacking habits. She says, “Smart snacking is key. Interestingly, a breakthrough study published in the New England Journal of Medicine shows that people who ate nuts such as almonds, at least seven times per week had a 20 percent lower all-cause mortality rate (death from any cause) compared to those who did not eat nuts[1]. Hence, snacking on almonds instead of consuming unwholesome snacks for your in-between meal cravings, can make a healthy difference to your life.”

So, what are you waiting for? Enlighten your mother to make this one change in her lifestyle right now.
