South superstar Mohanlal, who played a significant role in Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Company’ and is now playing Sanjeev Kumar’s counterpart in RGV’s ‘Sholay’ remake, has defied his sober image to indulge in a western jig.
Latino-Western dance choreographer Sandip Soparrkar (of ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’ and ‘Holiday’ fame) has made Mohanlal dance to his steps in the upcoming Malayalam movie ‘Aakashgopuram’. It is directed by K P Kumaran.
Sandip revealed reluctantly, “All I can say is that Mohanlal has startled me with his dance . He has swung to rumba and waltz music.” Sandeep adds, “He later revealed to me that he is a trained kathak dancer.”
Apparently, Mohanlal plays an elderly architect who is infatuated with a young woman. The dance sequence has him wearing a suit and wooing her. Incidentally, in the film ‘Vanaprastham’, released a few years ago, Mohanlal had played the role of a kathak dancer.
