Globally, the top trending video of 2013 is Ylvis - The Fox (What does the Fox say?), and YouTube has added a little dancing fox character to its signature red, white and black logo to celebrate. Confused? Yup, this is a comedy duo from Norway featuring brothers Bård Ylvisåker and Vegard Ylvisåker, who claim to be influenced by Monty Python. Their music video The Fox has gained over 273 million views to date since it was launched in September 2013.
Meanwhile in the UK, the top trending videos of the year includes How Animals Eat Their Food, a comedy video by YouTube comedian MisterEpicMann, which has gained a whopping 88 million views, followed by My Wedding Speech by Tom Fletcher. His song to his bride touched many hearts and went viral on Facebook in January, garnering 11.8 million hits on YouTube.
In the music category there are no surprises as South Korean rapper-singer Psy claimed the top spot with his wacky, dance-filled clip in Gentleman M/V, while Miley Cyrus rounds up the top three with videos for her smash hits Wrecking Ball and We Can’t Stop. Miley who grabbed headlines and negative news for her now-infamous “twerking” performance at the VMAs, stripped-down in the Wrecking Ball clip. Others in the top 10 included Katy Perry with Roar, Pink for her hit Just Give Me a Reason featuring Nate Ruess, Rihanna for Stay, Naughty Boy with La La La featuring Sam Smith, Selena Gomez for Come & Get It and Avicii for Wake Me Up.
