Miley and Billy had endured a brief estrangement in 2011 after the 20-year-old radically changed her image from the Disney princess Hannah Montana to a sexed up pop icon.

Miley Cyrus’s father Billy Ray Cyrus has reacted to her VMA performance saying that it is a way of “reinventing her sound”.

During an interview with Piers Morgan, the 52-year old American country music singer said that his 20-year old daughter’s act of twerking, rubbing a giant foam hand on Robin Thicke's crotch and licking the foam finger in a latex bikini, was a way of “reinventing her sound” and it should be seen as a sign of her “evolving as an artist”, the Mirror reported.

The Some Gave All singer added that Miley has “harnessed into something very special”, claiming that it is hard for people to watch a child star grow up.
