Metallica will headline the Glastonbury at Pyramid Stage on Saturday night, it has been announced.

Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis told BBC 6 Music's Matt Everitt that the US band wanted to play for a long time and they were one of the most incredible rock bands in the world, adding that this was the time they would be playing in Glastonbury, the BBC reported.

Metallica's Lars Ulrich told Radio 1's Zane Lowe that he was ecstatic and they had waited for the phone call to perform at Glastonbury for years.

The drummer said the band wouldn't choose their set-list until the last minute but they'd keep in mind that the Glastonbury audience may not be hardcore fans and that it will be their friendly neighbourhood Metallica.
