Meryl Streep 'too ugly' for 'King Kong'?

The three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep has revealed that she lost a debut role in the 1976 remake of King Kong because of her looks. The Devil Wears Prada star who is often deemed as one of the finest film actors of all time revealed on a British talk show that she was not selected for the lead role in King Kong because she was considered "too ugly" by the producer.

The three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep has revealed that she lost a debut role in the 1976 remake of King Kong because of her looks. The Devil Wears Prada star who is often deemed as one of the finest film actors of all time revealed on a British talk show that she was not selected for the lead role in King Kong because she was considered "too ugly" by the producer.

Meryl Streep has been nominated for 18 Academy Awards and 29 Golden Globes. The actress during her appearance on The Graham Norton Show revealed that Federico De Laurentiis, son of the famous producer Dino de Laurentiis, had discovered her and referred her to his father for the 1976 King Kong.

The actress said that when Dino looked at her, he asked his son in Italian why had he brought him "this ugly thing" referring to the Academy Award winner Streep. The then 26-year-old Steep having understood what Dino meant to say, swiftly retorted and added that she was sorry for not being beautiful enough to be in the King Kong film. Streep did not land the role and it was then given to another new discovery of the time, Jessica Lange.
 

Actress Jessica Lange made her film-debut and starred in the 1976 remake of action-adventure classic film King Kong. The movie was produced by Dino De Laurentiis and directed by John Guillermin. The classic film, which has been remade several times, is about a giant ape that is captured and taken to the New York city for exhibition.

The 1976 King Kong starred Jeff Bridges, Charles Grodin and Jessica Lange. Both Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange became quite popular after the movie and had a really rich career. Meanwhile, Meryl Streep went ahead and received her first Academy Award nomination for the film The Deer Hunter in 1978.
