The 13-year-old iconic chick flick that every girl can still watch month after month, is now being turned into a musical. Though the specifics of how you can find something to rhyme with “you can’t sit with us” hasn’t been revealed, we know for sure that comedic writer and actress Tina Fey has written the screenplay for the Mean Girls Musical.

The movie focuses on a homeschooled girl played by Lindsay Lohan, who returns to America after 15 years with her family in Africa, clueless about the social modes of the high school caste system. She gets drawn into the imperious popular female clique known as Plastics, and engineers their downfall from the inside, but not before becoming corrupted herself.

The creative team also includes the Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels, who produced the film and will also produce the show with Broadway veteran Stuart Thompson (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time) and the director Casey Nicholaw.

So many teens memories of high school bullying and banter, “That’s why her hair is so big, it’s full of secrets”, “On Wednesday we wear pink” and more will be turned into music by the composer of the musical, Jeff Richmond, who will be writing all the lyrics with Regina Spark.

Lindsay Lohan, who played Cady Heron, the protagonist of the original film, has actually expressed her interest in doing Mean Girls 2 with the cast.

“I have been trying so hard to do Mean Girls 2, it is not in my hands. I know Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels and all of Paramount are very busy. But I will keep forcing it and pushing it on them until we do it,” she said in a Facebook Live chat with CNN.

The casting for the movie has not yet been confirmed yet, and while there are no Broadway plans as of now, the pedigree of the creative team indicates a strong likelihood of an NYC run if the DC one goes well.
