The release of upcoming religious epic "Mary Magdalene" has been postponed to next year on March 30.

The Garth Davis-directed movie was originally slated to hit the screens on November 24, 2017 and will not competing in the race for the Academy Awards, according to Variety.

Actor Rooney Mara features in the titular role as Mary Magdalene, one of Jesus Christ's followers, while Joaquin Phoenix has been roped in to play Jesus.

The film will clash with Steven Spielberg's "Ready Player One" and Tyler Perry's "She's Living My Life".
