For a while now, the buzz has been that the Telugu remake of the hit Tamil neo-noir film Vikram Vedha is on. Speculations have been rife that actors Nandamuri Balakrishna and Rajasekhar are set to be seen in this remake with many reporting that the film would go on floors in the later part of the year.
Directed by Pushkar and Gayathri, the film was a production of Y Not Studios’ S Sashikanth. The 2017 film starring Vijay Sethupathi and Madhavan in key roles was a crime thriller that told the story of a notorious don and a ruthless policeman. Balakrishna and Rajasekhar were rumoured to be playing the two parts respectively.
And just as the excitement surrounding the film was going high with several reports on the same, the original film’s producers decided to hit a nail in the coffin and kill the rumours.
“YNOT Studios officially announces that all news related to Sri. Nandamuri Balakrishna and Dr. Rajasekhar playing lead in the Telugu Remake of our 2017 blockbuster Tamil film “Vikram Vedha”, being circulated on mainstream print and online media are absolutely false and are classified as baseless rumours (sic),” read a statement from them that was posted on their official handle.
Confirming that the remake rights for the Telugu film are with them and them alone, and that a remake in Telugu will be announced by them if it’s happening they wrote, “Additionally, we state that the Remake Rights of “Vikram Vedha” remains vested with us, and we kindly request the Film and the Press & Media fraternity to ignore such unauthentic news, until we make an official announcement. (sic).”
The original film also starred Shraddha Srinath, Achyuth Kumar and E Ramadoss and had music composed by Sam CS who got wide applaud for his work in the film. A Hindi remake of the film is reportedly being worked on.
