Love triangles in romances have long been a staple of Hindi cinema, but in recent years, they've taken a backseat, with the last one in recent memory being Karan Johar's Student Of The Year.
The latest triangle to be seen on screen will feature in ABCD2, starring Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor and Lauren Gottlieb, who play Suresh, Vinnie and Olive respectively. Says an insider, "Lauren's character has been intentionally kept under wraps." The poster doesn't feature her, neither does the trailer. The makers want her character to come as a total surprise in the film.
But ABCD 2 is not the only upcoming Bollywood film with a love triangle twist! There are seven other films taking the same route….

Tanu Weds Manu Returns
Kangana and Madhavan return in the sequel to their Tanu Weds Manu, but they return only with another Kangana as Kusum. "Normally, when there are twins, one of them is unusually shaant and the other one is shaitaan. But here, one is shaitaan and the other is maha-shaitaan," Kangana told us about her dual characters. Manu will fall out of love for Tanu and will get attracted to her 'Humshakal' – the Haryanvi athlete – Kusum. A love triangle between the three characters and who Manu ends up with is what forms the plot of the sequel.

Hamari Adhuri Kahaani
Another intense love story from the Bhatt camp, it's Emraan-Vidya's electrifying chemistry that the film is banking upon. But the kabab mein haddi is played by Rajkummar Rao. Rao says, "It's a special appearance and it's not even a role. But my character comes at a pivotal point and changes the track of the film." Did he hint at a love triangle? Of course! HAK is yet another love triangle with Rao playing the second fiddle. His co-star Vidya adds, "Every love story has a triangle."

Dil Dhadakne Do
Evident from the trailer, Dil Dhadakne Do is about the dysfunctional family of the Mehras and how Papa Mehra and Mumma Mehra want their 'son to get married' and their 'daughter to not divorced'. Priyanka plays Ayesha, the daughter, who is married to Manav (Rahul Bose). They have their differences and PeeCee tells her parents, "Manav ke liye jo feelings hone chahiye who nahi hai mujh mein'. Enter Sunny aka Farhan - Ayesha's once-upon-a-time best friend and sparks fly. An out-of-love Priyanka finds solace in Farhan and love ensues, while the family's on the cruise. It's too easy to do the math!

Bajirao Mastani
A period film, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani has Deepika and Priyanka going head-to-head with each other over Ranveer. Revolving around the life of Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao l, SLB's historical drama will have Deepika play the title character – Bajirao's second wife and Priyanka essaying the character of Bajirao's first wife Kashibai. Another love triangle set in the sand dunes of time, Bajirao Mastani will not only have Ranveer and Dippy's epic romance but Dippy-PC clash will form one of the major highlights in the film.

Kapoor & Sons
Off screen lovers Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra are all set to rekindle their on-screen pyaar in yet another Karan Johar film after SOTY. Here, too, there will be a third angle to their love story. Shakun Batra's next Kapoor & Sons featuring Sid and Alia will also have Fawad Khan playing the third angle. While initially it was reported that Sid, Alia and Fawad play siblings and Sid plays a gay character in Kapoor & Sons which is a coming-out film, Karan trashed such reports. It's "a modern family film with a love triangle embedded in it," Karan tweeted while announcing the film.

Dishoom
If you look at Varun Dhawan's career graph, the young Gen-Y actor has mostly been part of love triangles. Be it SOTY or Main Tera Hero or Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Varun's films have usually had the love triangle element in it. ABCD 2 is no different. So is Dishoom. The Rohit Dhawan directorial also starring John Abraham and Jacqueline Fernandez will revolve around the love story brewing between the three characters. "I don't know if you can call Dishoom a love triangle but yes, that element is there with me, John and Varun together," Jacqueline had told us.
