Look who's the assistant on Rajkumar Hirani's Sanjay Dutt biopic starring Ranbir Kapoor

Rajkumar Hirani’s son Vir made his directorial debut at the tender age of 14 with the film Return Gift, which was screened at the 18th International Children’s Film Festival of India 2015 in the Little Directors category.  Now, the teenager is all set to assist his father in another true-to-life film, the biopic on Sanjay Dutt starring Ranbir Kapoor.

Says a source, “Rajkumar was surprised when his teenage son mentioned he wanted to join him on the film. That’s because for his first film, which he made with his friends — all aged under 16, Vir had done the editing, writing and directing by himself. He hadn’t asked for any help from his father. So, he always thought that when Vir would be ready to start assisting, he would ask his advice as to whom he should begin with. When Vir expressed his wish to assist him, Raju took him as the juniormost assistant. In fact, he is an assistant to the assistant directors. Vir gives the claps, does the markings — a place where Ranbir should be seated for a particular shot — he goes and sits there, etc. He is not treated any differently because he is Hirani’s son.”

The shooting for the film began in January and is slated to release on December 22 this year.
