Akash Srivatsa, who has  earlier worked as an assistant director for Kannada film director Ramesh Aravind during the filming of Accident, was quite busy at Renukamba Preview theatre on Monday evening. After all, it was the screening of his maiden film, Sulle Satya, based on The False Gems, a shorty story by Guy De Maupassant.

And while the 40-minute short film, Sulle Sathya, is soon going to travel to national and international film festivals, news has it that this is only the first step for Akash towards turning a filmmaker full time. “We have already screened the film for the inauguration of Rolling Frames that was recently organised in the city,” he says.

The film is a realistic take on life in Bangalore city. It chronicles the struggles of one man’s search to find answers to questions that plague him day and night. “Through the characters, we embark on a journey that takes us through the nature of life, reality, illusion and most importantly love,’’ said Srivatsa.

According to the director, the film was shot in seven days and with a budget of Rs5lakh. The lead role in the short has been played by Mahesh, who has also worked as Ramesh Aravind’s assistant director.

There’s a rather interesting twist in the process behind this film; one of the songs has been composed by Vijayendra Kalabandi, a composer from London, another has been done by Priyadarshan who is based in Singapore. The lyrics have been penned by Akash Srivatsa and Jnanendra from Germany. “You can call this a project of international collaboration; the coordination was done mainly through online conferences,” says Akash, adding, “Our aim is to present our film at international film festivals and make our language proud. We will be showing it at the Short Film Corner at the Cannes film festival,’’ he said.
