Leonardo DiCaprio collaborates with Netflix for documentaries

Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio has signed a multi-year first-look deal with Netflix to develop non-fiction projects.

DiCaprio's Appian Way will develop fact-based projects with topical and provocative environmental and conservation themes, reported Aceshowbiz.

"Working with Netflix on Virunga has sparked a shared vision about projects that we want to develop and bring to viewers," said DiCaprio.

"There's never been a more critical time for our planet or more of a need for gifted storytellers to help us all make sense of the issues we face. Through this partnership with Netflix, I hope to give documentary filmmakers doing urgent and important work the chance to have their films seen immediately by audiences all around the world."

Their previous collaboration Virunga, about the conservation work of rangers within Virunga National Park, earned praise from critics and went on to receive a nomination for Best Documentary Feature at this year's Academy Awards.

DiCaprio, 40, will be the producer or executive producer for all the films and docu-series launched under the deal.
