Legendary Tamil playwright and actor Crazy Mohan passes away at 67

Mohan Rangachari, more popularly known as 'Crazy Mohan', aged 67, left for the heavenly abode at 2 pm on Monday. Crazy suffered an acute heart attack in Chennai, and was declared dead when he was rushed to Kauvery hospital.

He was a renowned artiste in Tamil theatre. Mohan acquired the title 'Crazy' after one of his plays ‘Crazy Thieves in Palavakkam’ gained popularity. The play became so famous that it was later converted into Television series too. Apart from theatre, he was well-known for scriptwriting in Tamil cinema.

Crazy Mohan, along with his brother Balaji, wrote a number of plays which always managed to leave the audiences rolling on the floor laughing. After a successful run in Tamil playwright, Mohan started his own drama group called Crazy Creations in the year 1979.

Mohan acquired his degree as a mechanical engineer from the College of Engineering, Guindy in the 1970s. However, on realizing his true calling, Crazy Mohan soon switched to working in theatre and eventually bagged work in movies. Crazy Mohan is most remembered for his association with Kamal Haasan. Together they enacted some hilarious comic scenes in Tamil films.
