Laxmi puja: Ambani style

Vaibhavi Merchant recently performed at Nita Ambani’s 50th birthday bash (the cost of which was close to ` 220 crore) in the middle of a lake in Jodhpur. The dance act was to invoke blessings from Goddess Laxmi.  Laxmi puja is performed on Dhanteras day in people’s homes and offices, all around the country. She is a trained dancer in classical dances and is well-versed in invocations to Gods, bhajans and vandanas so she was the best choice for this performance
Says a source,  “Vaibhavi  choreographed an elaborate Laxmi puja at the Balsamand Lake Palace. It started at 6 pm. The guests were asked to be present for a sunset surprise.

There were 100 huge floating lotus diyas, 30 feet Laxmi idol in the middle of the lake and three pontoons where various people were seated. There were terraces decorated with flowers and 2,000 Thai lanterns. There was a huge display of  fireworks post the performance. It was as if Goddess Laxmi was giving her blessings from the sky. Many guests felt it was a once in a lifetime experience. The entire performance was very spiritual and satwik by nature.”

Vaibhavi took along 52 dancers for the grand event. Adds the source, “Vaibhavi agreed to do this because Nita personally called her and requested her to do this. Apart from that, it was also a very auspicious day and it was a more like a prayer than a performance. Nita was very clear that she wanted a very unique experience. The choreographer produced an hour’s worth of original soundtrack which she compiled herself. Vaibhavi normally doesn’t dance at events but this was special and it was her gift for the birthday girl, who she admires.  She  was asked to put together everything in just 10 days and she did a fantastic job. At the end, Nita  hugged her and thanked her for the experience.”
