The veteran actress passed away this morning and her funeral will be conducted at Oshiwara Crematorium at 2:30 pm today. We caught up with the cast members of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi to find out their fondest memory of the actor. And here’s what a few of them said…

Jaya Bhattacharya (Payal Parikh):

She used to get me akha aam ka achar (mango pickle). I couldn’t eat the regular sweets and ghee stuff, so she’d specially get this pickle for me. She was very fond of me and I’ll miss her.

Ronit Roy (Mihir Virani):

I am not very comfortable talking about this. I didn’t have that much interaction with her, but the little I knew of her, she was very sweet and kind.

Komalika Guha Thakurta (Gayatri Jamnadas Virani):

There are so many memories; I can’t even narrate them all. She’s been like a mother figure from the time I joined the show. I have constantly been in touch with her till date. It was difficult to see her in this condition, but her kids Ritu and Vineet have been taking good care of her. She was so nice to everyone on the sets. In fact, she’d always feed us all. It’s important and really nice that you are writing about her and her body of work. She was such a brilliant actor in both movies and shows. I am at her funeral right now, and it’s not easy to see her go, aunty was like a mother to me.

Shakti Anand (Hemant Jamnadas Virani):

Besides Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi I also did Saara Akaash with her. She had a lot of energy; I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do that at her age. It’s a big loss for the entire television industry. She was a fantastic host and our entire team would party a lot. Mostly women at that age want to rest and go for satsangs but she was a party woman. She loved entertaining everyone and she has this unbeatable energy. I learnt a lot from her. She’d always say that she never wanted to sit at home idle; she loved working.

Naman Shaw (Nakul Gautam Virani):

She was tiny but always worked fast. Baa was full of life. We used have a lot of fun. Once she was taking a shot and she called out to a character Gangaa will complete emotions, incidentally her spot boy came running in between the shot because even his name was Ganga – it was really funny. Baa was like this cute penguin full of life and energy.

Karanvir Bohra (Tushar Rakesh Mehta):

That was my first show with Balaji and she was always like a motherly figure. She would get food for all of us and take care of all the newbies. In fact, Baa and Smritiji always made us feel at home on the sets of the show, she was like our own grandmother.
