Filmmaker-turned-actor Kunal Kohli who is currently shooting for Phir Se, the film that marks his debut as a leading man, has not taken kindly to writer Jyoti Kapoor's allegations of plagiarism.

Reacting strongly to Ms Kapoor's allegations claiming that Kunal's film is based on a story she narrated to Kunal, the director has decided to take strong legal action. Says Kohli, "I am going to file a case against her for defamation and making false claims. She is just trying to extort money. She is a publicity hungry extortionist. She is lying when she says she doesn't want money from me. I have a letter from her lawyer asking for a Rs 2 crores settlement. She's lying blatantly. Basically she's just an opportunist. My shooting continues in spite of her pathetic attempts to stop it."

Kunal sees Ms Kapoor's charges as a violation of an individual filmmaker's right to make the film he or she wants to. "There is absolutely no truth to her claims. Work doesn't stop on a film just because someone makes a silly claim. Our shooting continues as per schedule."

Kunal doesn't deny meeting Ms Kapoor. "I met her once in 2013. But that was after I had started writing my script with Sukhmani Sadana. It's sad to see people behave in this way. It puts you on guard against meeting newcomers. God knows where they'll carry that one meeting"

He says he tried to reason with Ms Kapoor, but in vain. "I tried to explain nicely to her. But she is adamant on creating a nuisance by trying to extort money. She will soon realise her mistake when she is proven wrong on every allegation that she has made."
